Beginning:Call and Answer/Repeat after teacher counting numbers one through ten
Middle:Children will use the goldfish to create a number 1-10 on a number mats provided
Earlier: Have the children count out a number of goldfish Later: Children can do a number line of fish, all 10 numbers
End:After the children have outlined their number they may eat their goldfish for snack.
Follow-up Ideas:To continue this activity we can use the multi-color goldfish and sort them by color.
Assessment:It’s no secret children like to eat, and eat goldfish cracker snacks at that. They were super excited to complete their numbers, mainly so they could enjoy the result. The children placed goldfish one-by-one along the number on their mat, to create a 3-D goldfish number. The children were able to recall and identify the number they had and gain recognition. I anticipated they would be excited to eat and they were, which ultimately motivated them to complete the lesson. If we were to do this again, we could use something smaller like skittles to incorporate fine motor skills as well.
