Middle:Children will put the petals, with the letters of their name, in the correct order and create a flower with a stem.
Earlier: The letters of the children’s name will already be written for them on the color they choose. Later: Children can cut out the petals and stems themselves and write the letters of their name themselves.
End:Five-minute warning and then the children will clean up.
Follow-up Ideas:To continue this activity the children could use the scrap pieces for a later collage project. Another activity could be to use the flowers as a Mother’s Day gift to a lovely lady they have in their family.
Assessment:The children were able to make a name flower. They used colored paper petals with the letters of their name and put them in the order of their names. The children gained letter recognition and beginning reading skills. The children were proud of the flowers they made, and wanted to make more. Doing this activity again, I would have the children do a number line rainbow for number recognition, one through ten.
