Materials:
Frogs on a log puppets
Beginning:Teacher sings “Five green and speckled frogs, sat on a speckled log eating the most delicious bugs. Yum yum. One jumps into the pool, where it is nice and cool, now there are four green speckled frogs”
Middle:Children will sing “Five Green and Speckled Frogs” while using their fingers to do the corresponding hand movements.
Earlier: Have the teacher sing as the children do the hands movements. Later: Have the children in small groups each have a puppet and sing along with the song together.
End: From those small groups the children can break into discovery play.
Follow-up Ideas:To continue this activity we can do “Five little Monkey’s Swinging through the Tree” and have the children do the hand motions accordingly.
Assessment: The children enjoyed singing and doing the finger plays to go along with each song. They were able to sing along with the teacher and then break into small groups and sing to each other. The groups took turns using their hands and using the one ‘frogs on a log’ finger puppet. The children gained moving their fingers to corresponding words and singing with their friends. It would have been nice to have more puppets to be used at the same time. The children were able to do pretty well waiting patiently for their turn with the puppet.
