Puppet Shows To have the children find creative solutions for problems and nurture their curiosity. Curriculum Content: Approaches to Learning: Making and expressing choices, plans, and decisions
Materials:
3 Pig puppets
2 Wolf puppets
1 Red Riding Hood puppet
1 Turtle puppet
1 Rabbit puppet
3 Cardboard boxes
Beginning: Read “The 3 little Pigs” fairy tale while performing using the puppets.
Middle:Children choose a story to perform using the puppets.
Earlier: The teacher will tell the story while the children use the puppets. Later: Children can create and alternate ending for the story the choose and perform for their friends.
End: After performing whichever fairy tale the children may play with the puppets however they chose. Then a two-minute warning to clean up all the puppets.
Follow-up Ideas: To continue this activity the children could use a different variety of puppets and create their own story to tell. Also the children could use the puppets in the dramatic play area to play house.
Assessment: This plan met my objective and the children enjoyed telling stories with the puppets. They had more fun telling their own stories and changing the endings then they did performing the fairy tales from the books. The children used puppets to tell fairy tales while listening or after listing to the story being read to them. The children gained problem solving skills during play, coming up with alternate ending to the tales and choosing who can use what puppet. They would have preferred to use any puppets and not just the ones relating to the stories. Something I could do differently is have a wider variety of puppets and have the children perform and tell their own made-up stories for one another.
