Statement Of Purpose I have been working with children for about eleven years, I began at a Boys & Girls Club at the age of fourteen and am now a Kindergarten Paraprofessional at a charter school in Detroit. I am currently enrolled in Oakland Community College's Early Childhood Education Program. This developmental portfolio is a record of my experiences in becoming a teacher and showcases my achievements on this journey thus far. I intend to finalize this trek with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Rochester College. This portfolio demonstrates my abilities in observing children, recording behavior, understanding child development, and how to assist in their development with the proper hands-on activities that help children learn. I have included evidence of my experiences, my philosophy, and a child study that I conducted on a preschool child. This portfolio also provides evidence of my lesson plans for a variety of age groups and my understanding of learning centers. You will also find within this portfolio my moral and ethical statements, my commitment to being a mandated reporter, and any other certifications I obtain.

Why do I want to be a teacher? I aspire to teach for the simpilist reason, the children. I have always had a heart for people and a desire to help. I recognized that children are our future and felt teaching made it capable for me to make lasting impressions. There is nothing more rewarding then to have a child say because of you they didn't stop, or that you're their favorite teacher, even when they were never your student, but strictly because of being there for them when they needed it. I became a teacher to make a difference and support those children who don't have any positive influences otherwise.
